Trying to confirm if a car was ever used as a rental!

I found a car I really like, but someone mentioned it may have originally been a rental. That doesn’t necessarily turn me off, but I’ve heard rentals can be driven pretty hard and only receive basic maintenance. I’m curious if there’s a reliable way to check if a vehicle was part of a rental or lease fleet. The seller didn’t say anything, which isn’t surprising, but I do think it’s something buyers should know. Does this kind of info appear in a vehicle history report, or is it more of a guessing game?

Just my opinion, take it at face value, but if there’s any chance it was a fleet vehicle steer clear of it. People have no respect for something that isn’t theirs, and there’s no way that vehicle would have been taken care of other than the bare bones maintenance done to it

I’ve actually looked into this before. Some VIN based history reports do flag if a car was previously used as a rental or part of a fleet. I ended up using Detailed VehicleHistory for a similar situation, and it showed whether the vehicle had rental or lease usage in the past, along with ownership history and service records.

It’s a good way to get verified info rather than guessing, especially if the seller isn’t upfront about it. Definitely worth running the VIN through a reliable service like this before making any decisions.
